Dr Charles Daniel Saliba
B.Ed. (Hons.) Maltese, Dip. Arabic (Distinction), BA Arabic (Summa Cum Laude), MA in Mediterranean Historical Studies, PhD (Sheff.) UK

Charles Daniel Saliba specialises in teaching Maltese as a Foreign Language (MFL). He lectures on Maltese linguistics and literature and MFL at Sir M. A. Refalo Sixth-Form, Victoria, Gozo. Through the Accreditation Unit of the Ministry of Education (MFED), Saliba designed and facilitated the accreditation of two courses—Academic Award in MFL, Malta Qualification Framework (MQF) Level 1 & MQF 2 (6 ECTS)—to introduce MFL for the first time at the Gozo Sixth-Form. He is also a health and safety teacher at the same institute, and, in 2013, his department was awarded the Health and Safety Education Best Practice Award (HASEBA). He is also a visiting lecturer at Malta College of Arts, Science & Technology (MCAST), Gozo Campus, and a practicum visitor with the Institute for Education. He has taught MFL and Medical Maltese at Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry (QMUL), Gozo Campus. Additionally, through the Malta Further & Higher Education Authority (MFHEA), Saliba designed and facilitated the accreditation of three courses—Award in MFL MQF 1 (5 ECTS), Award in Medical Maltese MQF 1 (5 ECTS), and Award in Medical Maltese MQF 2 (5 ECTS)—for QMUL. Saliba has published/co-published over 60 books, including the Maltese for Foreigners textbook series (3 syllabi, 16 textbooks with audio files), the first level of which was published in e-book format, while a hardcopy version of this level was also translated into a Maltese–Italian version called Maltese per Stranieri and a Maltese–German version called Maltesisch für Ausländer. Saliba also won a prize for his book, Realtà, in the Prose for Adolescents category at the National Book Awards in 2007. Lastly, he has presented his research at several international conferences and has been invited as a keynote speaker on a number of occasions.
